A Dunedin tree-removal application can end in approval or denial, but two other facts can change the route first: whether the tree work is tied to construction and whether it affects a roadway. Preserve the answer to both in writing.
Name the status instead of saying “in process”
Use these states in the project log:
- current form confirmed;
- application assembled;
- submission received;
- City review open;
- arborist inspection or evidence request;
- correction or prerequisite outstanding;
- approved or denied; and
- permit or related authorization retained.
The application found in the City’s March 2023 development-review packet includes applicant, property, contractor, tree, reason, status, roadway, and City Arborist decision fields. It is useful as a field dictionary, but its age means residents should ask Dunedin for the current form before filing.
Split off the construction branch
If removal is part of new construction, add a separate column for the building-permit number, approved plot or tree survey, protection plan, barricade inspection, and the City’s written confirmation that the tree step may proceed. The 2024 tree-protection record supports this handoff.
An approved building permit does not silently approve every tree shown on a site, and a tree application does not approve construction. Connect the files by their official identifiers rather than combining the PDFs into one ambiguous “permit.”
Flag roadway effects before scheduling work
When the application marks a roadway impact, record the responsible office, closure or traffic-control question, submitted plan, decision, date, and any separate authorization number. Do not infer that a tree decision includes traffic authorization.
The final evidence card should contain the exact City Arborist outcome, date, affected tree identifiers, conditions, expiration or validity text if any, construction dependency, roadway dependency, and next required inspection. That gives a later owner a defensible history without claiming that the dated application remains unchanged.
