Osceola County publishes two incompatible statements about year-round household chemical fees. Its standing hazardous-waste page says County households can use Bass Road or Peghorn Way at no cost. Its free-disposal-day page says year-round tire and hazardous-waste service at Bass Road requires fees.
Do not silently choose one. Confirm the exact customer, item, site, and date before loading the vehicle, and retain the County’s answer.
Preserve the fee conflict in the trip record

The conflict appears on the standing hazardous-waste page and free-day page. A staff answer, dated email, or retained call log should record the item, facility, customer type, date, stated fee, and staff contact. A general “it’s free” note is not enough.
Complete a seven-field load card
- Customer. Record the Osceola residential address and photo-ID requirement. The household route excludes business and commercial waste.
- Exact item. Write the product label, category, amount, and condition. Mark unknown material as unknown; do not identify it by guess.
- Container. The standing page says hazardous material must be in containers of five gallons or smaller and rejects 55-gallon drums.
- Preparation. Preserve original labels where possible, do not mix material, overpack a leaking container with absorbent material, and keep the load away from the driver and passengers.
- Facility. Record Bass Road or the St. Cloud Transfer Station on Peghorn Way. Do not infer that both accept every material under the same conditions.
- Live date and hours. Check the current County page immediately before travel.
- Fee and outcome. Retain the County confirmation, payment or no-charge receipt, accepted items, and any alternate route for rejected material.
The County waste router separates hazardous waste from curbside collection, yard-waste disposal, free events, and service requests. Keep those program records separate.
Match the standing item list
The hazardous-waste page names:
- antifreeze, solvents, car batteries, oil, filters, brake and transmission fluid, and used gasoline of five gallons or less;
- spray paint, paint cans, thinners, solvents, and wood preservatives;
- cooking oil, propane tanks, fire extinguishers, and unknown chemicals;
- pesticides, insect products, weed killer, and poisons;
- drain and oven cleaners, degreasers, waxes, muriatic acid, and pool chemicals;
- computers, monitors, televisions, phones, VCRs, and named detectors; and
- several single-use, rechargeable, alkaline, and lead-acid battery types.
The list does not prove that a damaged, reacting, over-size, mixed, business-generated, or otherwise unusual load is safe to transport or will be accepted. Ask before moving it.
Keep the tire event on its own timeline
The free-day page lists April 25, August 15, and November 7, 2026 at Bass Road from 7 a.m. to noon. Its tire terms are:
- four passenger-car tires per household at no charge at the event;
- eight tires per household per year;
- photo ID and proof of residency; and
- no vendors or commercial tires.
Four at one event and eight per year are different limits. Do not infer that every resident receives two guaranteed four-tire trips or that another tire class qualifies.
Household chemicals may also be brought on those Saturdays under the page’s item and packaging instructions. The special date does not resolve the standing fee conflict for ordinary year-round service.
Choose the facility from current records
At the August 13 source check, the standing page listed:
- Bass Road: Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., last household-chemical load at 2:45 p.m.; and
- Peghorn Way: Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Hours can change. Call the County for the exact material and facility when a trip depends on a closing time, holiday, quantity, or special handling.
If material is reacting, smoking, bulging, releasing fumes, or creating an immediate hazard, move away and use the appropriate emergency direction. This article is a record organizer, not a chemical-safety procedure.

We preserved the fee disagreement and normalized customer, item, container, facility, schedule, tire, and outcome fields. We did not transport material, visit a facility, identify a substance, or ask the County to resolve a hypothetical load.
