At OUC’s posted ReCharge hub price, 30 kWh calculates to $12 in energy charges. Leave a fully charged vehicle connected for 20 minutes, however, and the published idle rule adds $10 after its ten-minute grace period. The modeled total becomes $22.
These are calculations using the OUC hub page, checked September 23, 2026—not bills collected from drivers. OUC qualifies its $0.40/kWh listing with “fees may vary”; check the station and ChargeUp session terms before starting.
Same energy, different departure time
The published idle fee is $1 per minute after the first ten minutes when the vehicle is fully charged and remains connected. It is not billed during active charging. OUC idle-fee explanation
| Hypothetical 30-kWh session | Energy charge | Chargeable idle minutes | Modeled energy plus idle |
|---|---|---|---|
| Disconnect when fully charged | $12 | 0 | $12 |
| Disconnect at the end of the ten-minute grace period | $12 | 0 | $12 |
| Remain connected for 20 minutes after full charge | $12 | 10 | $22 |
LSL’s formula is:
energy delivered × $0.40 + max(0, minutes after full charge − 10) × $1.00
Use it only when the published idle conditions apply. It does not calculate other fees, a different live rate, billing-system rounding or a session that has not finished charging. Charging for 20 minutes is not the same as idling for 20 minutes.
One idle minute equals 2.5 kWh of energy cost
At these inputs, $1 ÷ $0.40 = 2.5 kWh. Ten chargeable idle minutes therefore cost as much as 25 kWh at the posted energy price.
That comparison explains why monitoring the end of a session can matter more than shaving a small amount off the energy added. It says nothing about how far a particular vehicle will travel or how quickly its battery will charge.
This is public-hub pricing, not the residential tariff used in our OUC household electricity calculation. Do not apply household tiers to a ChargeUp receipt.
Plan the return before walking away
OUC lists its hubs at 129 W Robinson Street and 8500 Tradeshow Boulevard. Its page also describes a four-hour charging limit and potential towing beyond it. That limit is not four hours of free parking or an extension of the idle grace period. Hub locations and terms
Before leaving the vehicle, confirm the session is active, how you will monitor completion and how long it will take to return. Afterward, compare delivered kWh and any idle line with the actual receipt. The examples do not establish charger availability or vehicle compatibility.
LSL reproduced the arithmetic from OUC’s published terms. We did not visit either hub, initiate a charge, measure delivery speed or verify a customer’s final invoice.
