Apopka’s published building-permit formula is $7.50 per $1,000 of actual contracted cost, subject to a $125 minimum. Residential plan review is another 50% of the permit fee. That means a low project value does not always produce the formula result.
Apply the minimum first
Use these steps from the City fee page:
- Divide accepted project value by $1,000.
- Multiply by $7.50.
- Compare the result with $125 and use the larger base permit amount.
- When residential plan review applies, calculate 50% of that resulting permit amount.
| Project value | Raw formula | Base permit row | 50% plan-review row | Two displayed components |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $10,000 | $75.00 | $125.00 minimum | $62.50 | $187.50 |
| $40,000 | $300.00 | $300.00 | $150.00 | $450.00 |
| $100,000 | $750.00 | $750.00 | $375.00 | $1,125.00 |
The last column is only the sum of the two rows shown. It is not a complete invoice.
Keep conditional components outside the model
The City also publishes a $50 administrative component for residential new construction. Trade permits, state surcharges, reviews, revisions, penalties, or other project-specific items can follow different rules. Add one only when the application or invoice identifies its trigger.
“Actual contracted cost” is the City’s stated valuation input; this article does not decide what documentation Apopka will accept for a particular scope. Preserve the contract or other valuation record submitted, the City’s accepted value, and the itemized invoice.
Before paying, compare the invoice labels with the permitting record. A correct reproduction of the formula cannot establish that the project was assigned the right permit type or that no other components apply.
