Plant City’s posted application asks for one permit type per application. It offers nine choices, not the seven selections described in LSL’s earlier article. Two separate building choices and an Other box matter when a broad project description hides different work.
The current City forms directory still links a form marked revision March 2018. Read its fields as an application aid; do not infer that its older legal notices supply today’s complete rules.
Read all nine choices before grouping the work
This crosswalk transcribes the application’s choices and adds LSL’s interpretation notes. The right column is not a City classification of your project.

Residential versus commercial is another selection above these choices. It is not a tenth permit type. Nor does the list mean a project needs nine applications.
Translate a project name into physical changes
Consider an illustrative bathroom proposal, not a reported job: relocate a sink, alter a partition and change an exhaust fan. “Bathroom renovation” alone loses the differences among those changes.
LSL suggests sending the City three short descriptions—what moves, what is removed or rebuilt, and what equipment changes—then asking which application choices and plans cover them. Do not assume that the three descriptions mean exactly three permits or that hiring one contractor combines the applications.
For storm-related work, first use the Plant City repair-versus-replacement comparison to describe the damaged components. The application choice is a later question; the word “storm” does not answer it.
Keep applicant information out of the City’s decision box
The form requests owner/site details, work description, contractor or qualifier information and estimated cost. Its office-only section contains approval, fees, code edition and permit number. Filling in the former does not supply the latter.
