Looking for a Vicksburg property’s site information? Start with the kind of document you need. The City’s record-custody page splits these records between Public Works and Building & Inspection—and says detached single-family site plans are not kept with the latter department.
Which office holds the described record?
| Document sought | Custodian identified by the City | Search limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Subdivision plat | Public Works | The City describes a database of plats in the Vicksburg area; identify the subdivision, not just the street address. |
| Easement or encroachment record | Public Works | Ask for the particular recorded matter; a general site plan may not answer the same question. |
| Vacation or annexation record | Public Works | Give the affected street, area or action if known. |
| Site plan for an industrial, commercial, townhouse or apartment development | Building & Inspection | The described database covers developments built in the last three years. The page does not promise every older plan is available. |
| Detached single-family site plan | Not kept with Building & Inspection, according to this page | Do not treat this as a searchable item in the database described above, or as proof that no copy exists elsewhere. |
The custodian assignments and retention description come from the City; the search prompts are LSL’s additions. A subdivision plat and an individual home’s site plan are different documents, so ask whether an available plat actually answers your question before paying for a copy.
Make the request specific
Use this short request by phone or through the City’s contact route:
I am looking for [document type] for [address, subdivision and any known project/date]. Does your office hold that record? If not, is there another custodian or a related record I should request? May I inspect it, and what would a copy cost?
The page says public viewing is free and copies carry a nominal fee, without stating an amount. Building & Inspection’s dedicated contact page lists 601-634-4528, 819 South Street and weekday hours of 8 a.m.–5 p.m.; the older custody page instead gives 805 South Street. Use the dedicated contact route and ask for the Public Works records contact when appropriate.
For a missing single-family plan, asking the owner, builder or surveyor whether they retained a copy is a separate practical search—not a promise of availability. An old drawing also should not be used as a current boundary survey or proof of permission for new work.
Publication note: This corrected guide replaces the former landscaping article at its old URL; original publication and approval dates are retained.
