Two official Ridgeland resources give different code-edition references. That matters before a contractor uses a saved instruction sheet to plan work or call for an inspection.
The department webpage names the 2015 international-code family and 2005 electrical code. The posted contractor PDF ends with 2003 international and 2002 electrical editions. Neither a current access date nor an official logo resolves that discrepancy.
What to ask the permit office
Send the City the project address, scope and the instruction document you are using. Ask it to identify the applicable adopted codes, amendments and current inspection instructions for that permit. Keep its answer with the approved plans.
LSL has not established which edition controls a private project. We also do not repeat the old PDF’s technical gas-testing directions as a safe procedure. Those belong with qualified trades and the responsible inspector.
Residential and commercial intake are not identical
The department webpage specifically places commercial applicants through Mayor and Board of Aldermen approval via the ARB process before construction-plan review. Do not recast that sentence as a prerequisite for every residential repair.
The PDF asks for two residential plan sets, including a site plan and setbacks. Ask whether the current submission route and document requirements differ for your scope. Do not order plans solely from the older sheet without that check.
Turn the inspection list into work holds
Use the following as questions for the City and contractor, not as authorization to proceed. The underlying stage descriptions come from the posted contractor PDF.
| Upcoming activity | Question to resolve |
|---|---|
| Burying rough plumbing | Has the required rough-plumbing inspection been completed for these lines? |
| Pouring a slab | Is the foundation ready and has the City completed the required pre-pour review? |
| Installing insulation or wall coverings | Which electrical/framing checks must occur while systems are exposed? |
| Finishing electrical work | What does the City require for the separately listed final electrical inspection? |
| Moving in | Are the required final inspection and Certificate of Occupancy complete? |
The PDF lists morning/afternoon call-in arrangements and excludes after-hours, weekend and holiday inspections. Confirm today’s scheduling procedure before committing crews; a published schedule is not a booked inspection.
For each work hold, name the person who will request the inspection and the person who will receive and act on any correction. This assignment is LSL’s coordination advice, not an extra City form.
Changed work needs a changed answer
The PDF requires City approval of construction changes and distinguishes posting the permit from completing inspection and occupancy requirements. Before a revised layout or material changes the accepted work, ask whether the plans or permit need revision.
A previously passed stage should not be used as proof that a later change was accepted. Likewise, finishing the physical work is not evidence that the City has issued the occupancy certificate.
This comparison was checked September 19, 2026 against the complete four-page PDF and operative department page. It identifies a source conflict and practical handoffs; it does not settle code applicability, inspect a property or certify a contractor’s work.
