Tavares describes itself as a tree sanctuary and identifies a permit threshold for trees at least six inches in diameter at breast height. A working file should show where and how the trunk was measured rather than listing “about six inches.”
Preserve the threshold evidence
Number the tree on a parcel sketch. Photograph the full tree, base, trunk, measuring tape at the DBH point, and site context. Record species and condition if known, the proposed removal reason, and any qualified assessment relied upon.

Keep the submitted form, receipt, inspection, written decision, payment, replacement conditions, work date, and closeout. If the City says the permit route does not apply, retain that written site-specific answer with the measurement photographs.
The threshold is one routing fact, not the entire ordinance. Location, species, ownership, development approvals, or other protections may still matter, so this checklist does not turn a measurement below six inches into universal permission.
