St. Petersburg’s current compost program requires an in-person workshop before an eligible household receives a bin. It is for single-family residential customers inside the incorporated city—not every address using “St. Petersburg” in its mailing address. City program
The September session is past. At our October 5 check, the City lists five workshops from October 2026 through February 2027. Use the calendar below to choose a location, then check the linked registration system before making the trip. A published date is not proof of an available seat.
Settle eligibility before the trip
The City warns that registrants outside city limits or in multifamily housing will not receive a bin even if they register for a workshop. Existing compost-program participants may attend for education but do not receive an additional bin. Eligibility and workshop instructions
Before choosing a session, answer three separate questions:
- Does the property meet the incorporated-city and single-family conditions?
- Is this the household’s initial bin, rather than a request for another?
- Can someone attend the workshop and take the bin home afterward?
If any answer is uncertain, resolve it with the program before arranging transport.

Registration closes five business days before each class, and class size is limited. Use the linked registration page to check its actual cutoff and availability; do not wait until the evening of the workshop.
Do not count five calendar days or assume every weekday is a business day around holidays. The program page does not give a cutoff hour or holiday-counting convention; LSL has not assigned a guaranteed last booking date.
The City’s registration instructions use an existing or new Parks and Recreation account, a search for Composting, selection of the desired date and location, and a reservation followed by email confirmation. Check that confirmation against the intended class before arranging transport. We did not log in or reserve a place.
The City describes the bin as approximately 33 inches wide at its base and 33 inches tall. Check the vehicle’s usable opening and space, not just its advertised cargo capacity. This is a transport-planning suggestion, not a guarantee that a bin fits a particular vehicle.
Finally, plan who will maintain the bin at home. The City does not collect the compost materials for you. The workshop, bin pickup and ongoing household work are three different commitments. Current composting page, retrieved October 5

Local Service Ledger read the complete operative City program page on October 5, 2026. We replaced the expired September notice with the five listed sessions and retained the eligibility, booking and transport checks. No business-day cutoff, available seat or household eligibility was independently confirmed. Check the live page for changes; our next scheduled check is October 18. No interview, site visit or individual service transaction was conducted.
